Celebrating Shiatsu Awareness Month This February

February is the Shiatsu Society’s annual Shiatsu Awareness Month and to celebrate I am bringing you a few ways to learn more about this incredible therapy, and experience it for yourself.

An Online Shiatsu Class on Saturday 27th February at 10am GMT – this will introduce you to various Shiatsu practices that will give your energy a boost. We will cover meridian stretches, acupressure, self-Shiatsu and Qi Gong. All proceeds are for Bowel Cancer UK; making a donation gets you the link to join the class.

A special offer for Goa clients

A nugget about Shiatsu shared daily on my Instagram page, eg advice on how to choose a Shiatsu Practitioner; follow here.

There could not be a better time to experience Shiatsu given how many of us are likely feeling “touch hungry” given the ongoing physical restrictions.

Everyday touch such as a hand on the back or squeeze of an arm is as essential for our wellbeing as food, warmth and shelter. Then there is “Shiatsu touch” which the Shiatsu Society describes as “deep and stationary, focused on touching yourself (or another) with mindful and compassionate awareness”.

The gentle compassionate touch of Shiatsu has so much healing power and we can learn how to use Shiatsu touch on ourselves and others. Here are my thoughts on Shiatsu touch.

Receiving Shiatsu online

This year, even though many of us are restricted to our homes, you can still enjoy the gentle and compassionate touch of Shiatsu from the comfort of your home, by choosing a Virtual Shiatsu Support session with me.

These sessions might include meridian stretches, Do-In, working acupressure points, breathwork and meditation. Most sesions include Shiatsu-based practices that you will be able to do yourself, in your own time.

Enjoying Shiatsu at home is just like doing yoga or a workout – find a quiet space where you will not be disturbed and lie on a mat or blanket. Turn off your phone and let people know you are having some time for yourself!

Looking back

As Board Director for Communications at the Shiatsu Society, I planned and launched Shiatsu Awareness Month 2020 with colleagues while I was living in the UK. I landed in Goa at the start of February 2020 and found a gorgeous shala set among swaying palms in Palolem, south Goa. It was the perfect setting for running my Shiatsu taster sessions.

Overall, last year’s Shiatsu Awareness Month (the first time it has been held in February) involved more than 20 Member Practitioners across three countries running events to give people an experience of Shiatsu and how it can benefit them.

About Me

I founded SJA Holistics to help people get well, feel great, and stay well using the power of practices derived from Eastern Medicine including Shiatsu, Reiki, Acupressure and Qi Gong.

For over a decade I’ve worked with Ki and have first-hand experience of how energy- and body-work can lead to positive health. Working with the energy body as well as the physical can bring profound changes to mental, emotional and physical issues.

After completing three years of study for the Professional Shiatsu Diploma, I honed my experience working voluntarily for six months in a national UK charity giving Shiatsu to people recovering from substance misuse.

It is my mission to help you recognise your own self-healing ability and to empower you with the skills and knowledge you need to dramatically improve your self-care.

Intelligent Energy

Every one of us has a universal energy, also known as lifeforce, chi, prana and Ki, that underpins our whole existence, and within that, our health. Stimulating the flow of Ki is how you can get well, feel great and stay well.
