Acupressure Insights: Heart Protector 8

Heart Protector 8 (or Laugong) in the centre of the palm – press to relieve tension and anxiety

I relied on a handful of acupressure points to see me through the stresses and strains of 2020 and particularly used some points to help me feel calmer, reassured and more grounded. As the turbulence seem set to continue this year, it seemed timely to share my go-to points.

First up is the Palace of Weariness, a point in the centre of the palm. If you hold your palms facing each other you will probably feel a sensation of warmth, tingling, pressure or pulsing. You are activating the Ki (energy) at these points. Once activated, try placing your hands gently on your body wherever you feel needs some support.

Guidance: Find the point in the centre of the palm; press as you breathe out, feel for warmth or tingling, and hold as long as it feels good. You can work the point on either or both palms.

The “cun” measurement is about a thumb width; 2 fingers are considered 1.5 cun; 4 fingers are considered 3 cun.

Thank you to my incredibly talented arty friend Laura for the beautiful sketches! I will be sharing them all on my Instagram channel or join my newsletter community for more free practices inspired by Eastern Medicine.

Bit of background

Laura and I met on the Working Week at the magical Cae Mabon, a community nestled on the edge of Snowdonia, back in October 2019. It was a most extraordinary week of singing (often in Welsh), apple pressing, clearing brambles, upgrading the hot tub decking, and walking around the nearby lake, Llyn Padarn. The highlight was celebrating All Hallows Eve and the start of the Pagan near year in the replica Iron Age roundhouse with about 30 people from the local community. See my photos here.

About Me

I founded SJA Holistics to help people get well, feel great, and stay well using the power of practices derived from Eastern Medicine including Shiatsu, Reiki, Acupressure and Qi Gong.

For over a decade I’ve worked with Ki and have first-hand experience of how energy- and body-work can lead to positive health. Working with the energy body as well as the physical can bring profound changes to mental, emotional and physical issues.

After completing three years of study for the Professional Shiatsu Diploma, I honed my experience working voluntarily for six months in a national UK charity giving Shiatsu to people recovering from substance misuse.

It is my mission to help you recognise your own self-healing ability and to empower you with the skills and knowledge you need to dramatically improve your self-care.

Intelligent Energy

Every one of us has a universal energy, also known as lifeforce, chi, prana and Ki, that underpins our whole existence, and within that, our health. Stimulating the flow of Ki is how you can get well, feel great and stay well.
